British authorities have charged a 45-year-old man with two counts of attempted murder following a stabbing attack in Golders Green, north London, in what police have described as a suspected terrorist incident.

The suspect, identified as Essa Suleiman, a British national born in Somalia, has also been charged with possession of a bladed article in a public place. He is accused of attacking two Jewish men on Wednesday, leaving a 34-year-old and a 76-year-old injured. Police confirmed that the younger victim has since been discharged from hospital, while the older man remains in stable condition.

Suleiman has also been charged in connection with a separate attempted murder earlier the same day in south London. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

Iran Leader Says Gulf Future Bright Without US Presence

Following the attack, UK authorities raised the national terrorism threat level to the second-highest category, indicating that an attack is considered highly likely within the next six months. Officials said the decision was based on a broader assessment of rising security risks, not solely the stabbing incident.

The incident has intensified concerns over security in areas with significant Jewish populations, including Golders Green. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has pledged stronger measures to protect Jewish communities amid growing tensions.

Interior officials said Britain has been facing an increasing terrorism threat landscape, with additional concerns linked to foreign state influence and online incitement. Authorities are also reviewing upcoming public demonstrations, including pro-Palestinian marches in London, to determine whether restrictions are necessary.

Police emphasised that while they cannot ban protests outright, they can impose conditions on routes and conduct to ensure public safety.

The case has further heightened debate in the UK over community security, public demonstrations, and rising tensions following the ongoing Middle East conflict.
